Joaquin, the blogger I miss the most, wrote this (I figure) the last time he went to the hill, before leaving Berkeley:
"Farewell to a Kingdom...
It is with a great sadness that I am to leave this my kingdom forever. The courteous magestic mountains have granted me leave of the slopes of this Hill that I so hold dear. The skies of Winter have set upon us, and the path of Spring leads me somewhere else, where trees and breeze verse in different tongues.
I come to bring you this news, and I also come to tell you that even though I will be gone, this Kingdom will exist in perpetuity if not by the grasshoppers and the mosquitoes alone, then by the stories long told after many generations in the form of children's songs. So forget not your loves or your spites, for they will live on even after the last dawn comes to shove us all into the unknown.
Remember the gates that fell by the enemy's iron, never forget the foothill that makes you look upward and into the sky. Carry the story of the pub across the street, and the warmth of the candles perched high upon the street. Tell no one of the nights you spent watching the stars, refusing to count them."
It's a great piece of writing, one that makes me feel happy about the times that were, the people I met, the hills I climbed.
That hill.
We would go up there and pretend to study. We didn't have pot, but we had a pack of Camel, and a Kingdom at our feet.
And the peace.
The colour of the sky.
The green of the grass.
The ant, the notebook,
the lighter.
It won't come back, but nobody will tell you about the nights spent watching the stars, refusing to count them.

Growing up online
Some months ago I decided to sign up for Facebook. Like in every other social network, very fast I had gathered some contacts and could start interacting online.
This is quite a thing, you know. I mean the internet is so intertwined in our lives that you sign up for an online community, and you already find people you know there, in that very same moment, willing to share some stuff.
However, some days later I forgot about Facebook. I had to. I mean, somebody even sent me a pillow fight request. So, I had to turn off email notifications, I couldn't cope with it. I mean, lately I don't even have time to write on this blog.
But I forgot that, even though I was not receiving email alerts, I was still on facebook. And today I learnt that a friend had asked me to come by my place via facebook, and so I missed it. I signed in facebook when she told me that, and I saw that I had a couple more requests to see me OFFline.
So I guess I am starting to miss things that happen on online platforms I am not used to use. I am a kind of old, email-type of guy. I am old for the internet, already.
Man. Good that I am going to a wedding tomorrow. I mean, makes me feel younger. :)

Playin' the blues
One of the pleasures of writing a blog is reading it, like I am doing now, with b.b. king playin' the blues in the background.

Christmas greeting
To whom it may concern:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes
for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress,
non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice
holiday, practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious
persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the
religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their
choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and
medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted Gregorian calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for
the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to
society have helped make our country great and without regard to the
race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms: This
greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely
transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies
no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for
her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is
revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted
to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings
for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday
greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to
replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole
discretion of the wisher.
No trees were harmed in the sending of this message
(thanks to christina for sending me this great letter; you will always have a joint waiting for you here :)

Literature to laugh
It's good there's still people like Simon Rich, who write to makes us laugh, to amuse us.
Check this link, if you have some time to read. And of course, you can always try this link as well.

Jose Alfredo Cañizo Rincon, PhD
My dearest friend Jose Alfredo Cañizo Rincon earned his PhD some months ago, with the magnetic title Some problems related to the study of interaction kernels: coagulation, fragmentation and diffusion in kinetic and quantum equations.
I guess this is the first link to his work (at least the first catalan link), something I am obviously proud of.
Anyway, here's the frontpage of his thesis, like José Alfredo says, with the flair of "those old books that Lebesgue or Riemann used to write" (quote: Cañizo Rincon, email, 6th August 2007).

Let the big dick fairy bless you
Get a visit from the big dick fairy.
The size you've always wanted can be yours in a matter of months.
Click the link and let her bless you with massive gains.

Advantages of simulation and dissimulation are three.

Of course, this is another spam message that hit my inbox today, literally transcribed here. Spam, like tv ads, is getting as interesting as the rest of the emails i get :)
I must admit, I can't wait to meet the big dick fairy. How do you think she might look like?

Emblemas y chingaderas
"On the day when I know all the emblems," he asked Marco, "shall I be able to possess my empire, at last?"
And the Venetian answered, "Sire, do not believe it. On that day you will be an emblem among emblems."
--Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities
Así pues, más vale dejarse de chingaderas, y aprovechar los pocos placeres que nos ofrece la vida, que no son poco si saben aprovecharse.
El conocimiento es el pasatiempo de los que necesitan pasar el tiempo.

What should I think about this?
A definition from the Urban Dictionary:
Fart Huffer
One who enjoys smelling farts, either self-flatulated or those originated from another man or animal. Fart huffing typically involves a series of deep and aggressive inhalation cycles, sometimes aided by a cupping motion of the palm, fanning the fart from the asshole to the nose.
Example: "I was amazed to see Jimmy huffing his dog's silent farts. He huffed as if posessed, and it made me sick to my stomach. I guess Jimmy is a real fart huffer."

Google Analytics
Thanks to google analytics I know that two people came to my site after searching for "fruitman polla" (fruitman cock, in spanish), and each of them spent here, on average, 4 minutes and 32 seconds. Quite amazing.
And that is what what appears for fruitman polla.
Be welcomed, my dear friends, to admire my polla.
ps you see, ingrid, they don't search for "miembro" (a polite way that educated girls like ingrid use instead of dick)

Alex thinking

Playing chess with Alex is one of the things I like the most. I feel like I will always remember this long games we play together. Alex has taught me so much playing chess. He has taught me to never surrender, like the spartans :)
That's how I have become stronger, by learning from his temper, from his passion for playing. What's important is to play and admire the beauty of the game: to produce beautiful matches.
And basically, well, that's what life is more or less about. The search for those moments of beauty that make us feel alive. And beauty is playing this game, for four hours, on a crappy piece of wood where we draw a chess board, listening to what pandora wanted us to listen, and smoking the very last greenleaves that our beloved neighbour so kindly gave us.
It's a cheap thing to do, but it's not easy to enjoy it as much as I do.

London tube
This time, however, it was more of an american experience, considering I was attending a conference organised by a US vendor. Pure work, hardly enjoyed the city from a fruitman point of view, even though taking the tube continues to be fascinating. It's just always amazing to see so many people dressed in suits in the tube.
The best professor I had at LSE, Ian Angell, used to say that observing people in the tube was a fascinating experience. That's why he changed from maths to social sciences. Could be, though I don't think you automatically understand people better by walking into social sciences. Just like you will never be a good writer by studying literature.
