Alex thinking

alex is thinking while we were playing chess

Playing chess with Alex is one of the things I like the most. I feel like I will always remember this long games we play together. Alex has taught me so much playing chess. He has taught me to never surrender, like the spartans :)

That's how I have become stronger, by learning from his temper, from his passion for playing. What's important is to play and admire the beauty of the game: to produce beautiful matches.

And basically, well, that's what life is more or less about. The search for those moments of beauty that make us feel alive. And beauty is playing this game, for four hours, on a crappy piece of wood where we draw a chess board, listening to what pandora wanted us to listen, and smoking the very last greenleaves that our beloved neighbour so kindly gave us.

It's a cheap thing to do, but it's not easy to enjoy it as much as I do.

London tube

This time, however, it was more of an american experience, considering I was attending a conference organised by a US vendor. Pure work, hardly enjoyed the city from a fruitman point of view, even though taking the tube continues to be fascinating. It's just always amazing to see so many people dressed in suits in the tube.

The best professor I had at LSE, Ian Angell, used to say that observing people in the tube was a fascinating experience. That's why he changed from maths to social sciences. Could be, though I don't think you automatically understand people better by walking into social sciences. Just like you will never be a good writer by studying literature.

Cuentos

Algunos cuentos que debo escribir:

primer cuento

A José María Álvarez y Carmen Marí

y mirando a otros hombres;

Marina

Finally, Ana gave birth today to Marina. At 8am, there she was: 50cm long, 3550gr. It was simply so cool to be able to follow so closely Ana's pregnancy.

For the first weeks, Ana was full of life, absolutely gorgeous. She was lovely Ana with a small belly. And then it just kept growing, until the day when she put my hand on her belly, and I could feel something moving.

It's the first time in my life that a close friend has a baby. I'm just so glad I worked with Ana, with my little Anita, during the first 8 months of her pregnancy, and I guess she is too (I was a good boss, wasn't I? :)

So, today it's Marina's day. And I declare this day a day of happiness and absolute pleasure, for only pleasure will lead us to happiness, as I hope Marina will one day understand.

Today was a great day. Today, Anita created life.

Marybeth and Christina

I start a new series of posts that will portrait different people that have slept in my place, either in my room or in landiman's (most of the time, it's in his room). I will tag them all with the tag "guests". Hopefully, in the future, we'll be able to navigate this tag and plan a trip around the world, "with a little help from my guests" :)

Let's start with Marybeth and Christina, the latest guests that we've had in our humble, yet friendly, flat. So there it goes:

Marybeth and Christina smoke weed all day long. I mean, all day long. Like I father, I was proud to offer them the remaining of our neighbor's plant. It was just lovely to see them smoke and enjoy. They reminded me so much of my sweetest memories in Berkeley, of my sweetest memories of early youth (yes, I'm still young: accepting one's adultness involves a kind of conformity that I resist to embrace)

I was also 23 when I arrived in Berkeley, and it was just amazing to live with a couple of 23 year-old girls for some days. Plus, they rolled the joints really well (women always grow up faster for everything related to vice, or maybe I will just never be able to roll like a pro)

We did other things other than smoking. Here's a list:

-enjoy a night of music videos with youtube as the perfect dj
-smoke strawberry tobacco with the water pipe that my colleagues at Anuntis bought me as a goodbye present
-walk along the old town around 12 at night, after two hours of jazz at jamboree (sant felip neri was just amazing under the orange light of the street lamps)
-take pictures of the hair style of landiman after christina's attempt to make his hair look like hers
-laugh a lot with the concept "blow dryer"

And well, I guess that's all I wanted to say. Yes, I guess I'm a little bit tired.

The fruitman, photographer

Life is like the Teo books. Teo goes to the circus. Teo is ill. Teo, private detective. And so on. Today, I'm "fruitman, the photographer".

I received an email from a publishing company. They want to publish my picture bikes on one of their novels.

In the email, they asked my if it was ok to publish it with a copyright attribution to "fruitman".

Fruitman merchandise

Little by little, the fruitman brand is extending all over the world. I am far from 100 visits a day, like a fellow blogger, but I already have a videogame named after me. And, well, screw playstation 3 when you can play the fruitman game.

Thanks, Bernie, for finding this. You're cool.
